Recently I was commissioned to either make a sculpture or an image for a private collector, so I decided that it was the perfect invitation to start sculpting.
Sculpting is a new medium for me. Working with space, volume, 3D, looking at all the contours, with the materials. I thought it would be an interesting challenge and a new skill to add to the list.
I have found great inspiration in the works of Michael-Angelo, Rodin, Gregorz Gwiazda, Bruno Walpoth and Subirachs.
This is actually Kathe Kollwitz. Absolutely amazing.
These have been some of the most relevant for me so far, although I ask myself:
Where does contemporary sculpture stand? What does/should it aim to achieve? What art and artist do I consider relevant in sculpture and why?
Another question is; what did the artists that I admire wanted to achieve/create/express with their works and their sculpture?
Also, and more poignantly: What is it that I want to achieve with my sculptures? And how do I achieve it ?
I have started to carve an inverted face out of wood, following the example of Subirachs. I don't know where I want to go with this, but we'll find out.
Here are some of my images;
Truly, thank you for your time and attention,
